Indiana celebrated its 200th birthday Sunday, but the annual Statehood Day celebration at the statehouse came two days early. Vice President-elect Mike Pence attended and cited a list of Hoosier heroes from Abe Lincoln to Eli Lilly to John Glenn’s fellow Mercury astronaut Gus Grissom, and said by the end of Indiana’s first century, Hoosiers like them had built the state into “an industrial powerhouse.”
