Anderson Will Settle Lawsuit For 200K
The city of Anderson has decided that it will settle the lawsuit of the family of a 17-year-old who died after strangling himself while handcuffed in the back of a squad car. Mayor Thomas Broderick Jr. says the administration initially wanted the lawsuit to go forward, but the insurance carrier wanted to settle the case for $200,000 due to economic reasons. Broderick says there was a breakdown in supervision at the time of the incident and departmental policies were not followed. He stressed that there was a policy in place — and continues to be — that a juvenile should never be left unattended.
