Madison County Jail gets help for staffing, AC problems

The Madison County Jail is overcrowded, has an inadequatee air conditioning system and is being called a “powder keg” by the Sheriff. Scott Mellinger is asking County Council for four part time jail employees to bring staffing standards in line. The council voted to authorise $81,000 to hire the four employees out of the general fund. They also ok’d transferring $80,000 from the rainy day fund to fix the air conditioning and pay bills.
