A Muncie man has been arrested for battering a woman at the Bestway Inn. Gary Fairchild is accused of knocking the woman out after she accused him of theft. Fairchild has a previous record of criminal deviate conduct and was found to be mentally ill, and served time for a break in of a tavern in 1986. While in prison, he won reductions in his sentence by earning two college degrees and completing substance abuse treatment. This time, Fairchild has charged with battery and posted a $2,500 bond. He was released about two hours later.
