Muncie council to address anti-Muslim sentiment

Muncie city officials say they plan to support a resolution declaring support for Muslim citizens and condemning anti-Muslim hate speech and violence. The resolution was proposed by Mayor Dennis Tyler. The Muncie City Council will consider the resolution at an upcoming council meeting. The move was prompted by perceived increased anti-Muslim sentiment after a group of people wearing their traditional Muslim robes and head coverings at the Muncie Mall led a woman to post on social media she was concerned about an imminent terrorist attack. The Mayor told the Star Press that Council wants the community to know they appreciate the Muslim community and want them to feel welcome.
