Legislators have voted to put emergency managers in charge of the Muncie Community Schools district and also in Gary, Indiana, where they’re not sure if they can even open the doors next school year. Muncie Superintendent Steven Baule and local legislators protested the MCS addition to the bill – citing that its schools have received passing grades on the state’s accountability measures and have already begun actions to erase the red ink. Gary schools are handing over complete control of their finances and academics.
