Authorities say Muncie police shot and wounded a driver who refused to stop following a traffic violation and sped at officers in a parking lot. State police say officers with the Muncie Police Department tried to stop the car about 2:30 a.m. Friday when it sped away and crashed through a gate of a U.S. Postal Service facility in the city. Police say a passenger jumped out of the vehicle and as officers stopped to assist her the car turned and was driven at officers. Police fired shots, wounding the 48-year-old man who was driving. He’s hospitalized and police say he’s expected to survive. Police say he had a suspended license and a misdemeanor warrant for his arrest. He’s expected to face charges after he’s out of the hospital.
