Fireworks laws, injuries in Indiana

Just a quick reminder from the State Fire Marshal’s office about fireworks. Make sure you know the laws of where they can set off, and most importantly, know that if your fireworks damage someone else’s property, you could face a $5,000 fine, a year in jail, and restitution may be required. You can get the fireworks information at www.GetPrepared.in.gov.

As for fireworks safety, another reminder. More than half of the injury cases involved malfunctioning or mishandled fireworks. Last year, two Indiana residents died from fireworks injuries and Indiana reported the highest number of firework-related injuries since 2006. The message from the Fire Marshal is to have fun and be careful.
