The long-expected shutdown of the Anderson Guide Corporation plant took place Friday. Company officials told workers in the morning that Friday was the last day of production. The shutdown affected the remaining 265 hourly workers at the plant.
A Muncie man who ran an unsuccessful campaign for Delaware County commissioner last year is throwing his hat into the ring again. Mike King will announce his candidacy for an at-large Muncie City Council seat at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Democrat Party headquarters.
The recently-remodeled Frankton Community Library was unveiled Sunday. Dozens of community members visited the library, which was expanded from 1,400 square feet to over 5,600 square feet. Bonds, grants and individual donations totaling $750,000 helped fund the project.
Portland police have charged a man with breaking into one home and trying to enter another home. Wayne Lanning, 30, was allegedly looking for money and food during the incidents. Lanning was released from prison last June after four years of a six-year sentence for arson. He pleaded guilty but mentally ill in that case.
A Muncie man has been sentenced to time served in the Jay County Jail for an alleged kidnapping attempt in February of 2005. Wayne Melton, 43, admitted to an attempted criminal confinement charge as a result of allegedly trying to abduct a clerk at the Redkey Pak-a-Sak convenience store. The clerk ran from Melton and threw hot coffee on him in an attempt to flee.

A Marion teen found out the parking lot she thought she was entering early Saturday was a lot more wet than she anticipated. Braich Kamalpreet, 19, drove her SUV into a pond near 32nd Street and Western Avenue. She wasnt hurt and there were no traffic problems despite the time needed to remove the vehicle from the water.
A Muncie man already facing charges of crimes against children in Randolph County now faces a similar charge in Delaware County. Scott Thomas Legear, 29, was formally charged Friday.
