Road collapses near Golden Gate Bridge after fiery crash

A STRETCH OF HIGHWAY NEAR THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE IN SAN FRANCISCO COLLAPSED YESTERDAY, AFTER A GASOLINE TANKER CRASHED AND EXPLODED. THE DRIVER OF THE TRUCK ONLY SUFFERED SECOND DEGREE BURNS. AUTHORITIES SPECULATE THE ROADWAY MAY BE OUT OF USE FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, CAUSING NEARLY 75 THOUSAND VEHICLES THAT USE THE DAMAGED PORTION OF THE ROUTE DAILY MANY PROBLEMS. 

New budget includes $550 million in tax relief

A NEW $26 BILLION TWO-YEAR BUDGET WAS APPROVED YESTERDAY BY HOUSE DEMOCRATS, DESPITE THREATS FROM REPUBLICANS WHO DID NOT VOTE ON THE MEASURE.  THEY SAY THE BILL DID NOT OFFER ENOUGH PROPERTY TAX RELIEF TO HOMEOWNERS THIS YEAR.  HOWEVER, THE BILL DID PASS IN THE REPUBLICAN CONTROLLED SENATE AND WILL INCLUDE $550 MILLION IN PROPERTY TAX RELIEF.

Police find body in trunk of parked car

A BODY WAS DISCOVERED IN THE TRUNK OF A PARKED CAR IN INDIANAPOLIS SUNDAY AFTERNOON.  POLICE RESPONDED TO A COMPLAINT OF A BAD ODOR COMING FROM A VEHICLE AT AN APARTMENT COMPLEX ON THE CITY’S NORTHSIDE. AN AUTOPSY HAS BEEN PLANNED LATER IN THE WEEK TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF DEATH.

Grant money to help Indy fight gang violence

A FEDERAL GRANT OF $2.5 MILLION HAS BEEN GIVEN TO THE CITY OF INDIANAPOLIS TO HELP FIGHT GANG VIOLENCE.  A DETECTIVE WITH THE METROPOLITAN POLICE DEPARTMENT IS HOPEFUL THE MONEY WILL HELP AUTHORITIES FIGHT GANGS IN THE INDIANAPOLIS AREA.  THE CITY WAS ONE OF FOUR ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO RECEIVE FEDERAL FUNDS.

Deadline approaching to file tax appeals

FRIDAY IS THE LAST DAY FOR DELAWARE COUNTY PROPERTY OWNERS TO FILE APPEALS ON THEIR TAX ASSESSMENTS.  OWNERS CAN FILL OUT A FORM 130 WITH A TOWNSHIP ASSESSOR OR FILE A LETTER TO MAKE THEIR APPEAL. THE LOCAL PROPERTY TAX ASSESSMENT BOARD OF APPEALS WILL HAVE THE FINAL SAY ON ANY CHANGES.
