A sex offender who failed to register is in jail. 30-year-old Brion Sharp was picked up last week. He was convicted of sexual misconduct with a minor 11 years ago. He had warrants out for failure to pay child support and remains in jail without bond in Delaware County.
A jury has been seated for the trial of accused Richmond Hill Explosion conspirator Bob Leonard. Jury selection began Tuesday morning with a pool of 400 potential jurors drawn from Allen County residents. With a full jury seated, opening statements are scheduled to begin later today.
A Muncie couple was arrested yesterday for suspicion of dealing heroin. The Sheriff’s department says Geoffrey Stephens and Lacy LeeAnn Penix took part in a drug transaction with an undercover agent. They are in county jail with bonds of $15,000.
Animal cruelty charges are being brought against a Muncie man for failing to care for his dog. According to police, 31-year-old Joshua Wilson is charged with animal cruelty, a misdemeanor that could land him in jail for a year. His land lord called police after she found a small, brown malnourished pit bull with an eye problem, no food or water in his home last September . The home was full of excrement and the dog and a cat were removed to the city shelter. He was arrested Saturday night after failing to appear in court. Wilson’s next hearing is February first.
A Muncie teenager who allegedly forced his way into a home on North Everbrook Lane wearing only boxer shorts and a ski mask, was arrested last night. City police say 19-year-old Austin Atkins claimed to have a gun and demanded money from the victims. He was reportedly recognized by the victims and ran from the home without money. He was arrested later after a tip at the Best Western on West Bethel Ave. Police are charging him with possession and dealing in a controlled substance after a hotel guest told police Atkins tried to sell him Xanax and Percocet. He’s in Delaware County Jail with bond set at $32,500.
A Pendleton man has died from injuries suffered in an accident near Indiana 13 and 38. Police say 36-year-old Daniel Rooney of Pendleton was driving south on Ind. 13 when his vehicle veered into the path of an oncoming semi. Rooney was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Muncie man who pleaded guilty to burglary and strangulation in December for breaking in to his girlfriend’s apartment and attacking her has been sentenced. 36-year-old Tyjuan McCraney received a 30-month sentence, with the first year on home detention and then 18 months’ probation. The man has previous convictions for attempted robbery and drug possession.
A three-story indoor golf complex is slated to open in Fishers next year.
The Topgolf Company plans to build its first Indiana location on 116th Street near Cumberland Road. Construction could begin later this year with plans to open in the spring of 2017. The Fishers complex would create 450 full and part-time jobs.
The site of the former Budget Inn on MLK Jr. Blvd. is the topic of discussion for Muncie officials. The city is refusing to release $22,000 in funds provided by the former land owners for clean up because they say the job is not done. The lot is cleared but concrete pads remain, and the city is concerned about underground tanks from the previous gas station.
Madison County officials have set a second bid date for a new minimum security facility in Anderson. Contracts were not awarded the first time because all of the bids surpassed the estimated 1.6 million dollar cost. Madison County Commissioners will advertise for a second time with the new bid date set for March 1.
