Madison County filings

The first Anderson mayoral candidate to formally file for the primary election did so in grand fashion Wednesday.  Kris Ockomon arrived at the Madison County Government Center at 6:30 a.m. so he could be the first to formally enter the race.  Several other candidates for additional offices also completed their paperwork.

Muncie police continue to probe a shooting incident in an apartment near Main Street and Ohio Avenue east of downtown around 11:00 a.m. Tuesday.  Police say Derrick Price Jr., 19, shot David Sullivan in the back during a dispute over a  handgun. Help needed in Union City

Union City officials say they need volunteers to help remove Christmas lights from Harter Park.  The effort takes place from 9 a.m. – 12 noon Saturday.  The lights were put in place for the holiday celebration called “A Community Christmas.”

Walking zone review

Carmel-Clay school officials plan to review walking zones around schools.  The zones haven’t been reviewed since they were established several years ago.  Officials say the review never happened because of the system’s rapid building boom, and now is a good time since the city is expanding walking and biking opportunities.
