Hearing slightly delayed

The Madison County court hearing for a Muncie man accused with crimes against children was postponed Monday.  The hearing for Elzie Harty, 26, is now planned for 8:30 Thursday morning.  Harty is accused with having an inappropriate relationship with a 13-year-old girl at the Anderson Center from April of 2005 to April of last year.

SUV slams into trees; driver slightly injured

A Portland woman suffered minor injuries in a crash along U.S. 27 at Jay County Road 300N Monday morning.  Police say Melissa Comstock, 23, lost control of her SUV on a patch of ice, left the road and struck two trees. Things going well for Sallie Mae

Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, Muncie Mayor Dan Canan and other officials will tour the Muncie Sallie Mae facility Tuesday afternoon.  Company officials say they’ve already hired 530 people, well ahead of the pace originally expected.  700 total jobs were expected when Sallie Mae announced plans to locate in the Airpark Industrial Park last year.

Board hires instructors

The Delcom School Board has approved the hiring of five remediation instructors.  The instructors will help Delta High School students struggled with math and language arts this spring.  Meanwhile the board tabled a plan from Superintendent Steve Gookins to purchase four 66-passenger buses, one at a time.  The board could renew consideration of that plan […]

It’s been a very busy Monday morning for Madison County firefighters…they’re on the scene of a working house fire at 8341 West Madison County road 150N in the Lapel area. The house was reportedly fully involved when firefighters arrived around 4:30 a.m.

The heavy snow dumped by last week’s blizzard caused significant structural damage to Muncie’s South View Elementary School.  A section of the roof in the center of the building shifted according to a report given to Muncie Community Schools Supt. Teen held after drug bust

The Marion-Grant County Joint Effort Against Narcotics or JEAN Team arrested a 15-year-old boy Friday night on charges of conspiracy to deal cocaine and possession of cocaine with intent to deliver.  Officers received information that the boy had plans to sell the cocaine to some other people.
