State budget moves on to committee

A NEW STATE BUDGET WAS PASSED BY THE SENATE YESTERDAY.  THE $26 POINT THREE BILLION PLAN FROM REPUBLICAN LEADERS WOULD INCREASE SPENDING ON EDUCATION, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND OTHER INITIATIVES.  THE BILL WILL MOVE ON TO A CONFERENCE COMMITTEE FOR RESOLUTIONS AND A FINAL VERSION OF THE BILL. 

Garfield statue back in Marion park

THE ONCE HEAD-LESS STATUE OF GARFIELD IS BACK IN MARION.  THE STATUE WAS REMOVED LAST WINTER WHEN OFFICIALS NOTICED THE HEAD WAS MISSING.  JOSEPH SAVARINO CONFESSED TO POLICE LAST DECEMBER ABOUT HUGGING THE STATUE AND CAUSING THE HEAD TO FALL OFF.  POLICE SAY SAVARINO DUMPED THE HEAD ALONG A PARK TRAIL. 

Winchester woman dies from injuries suffered in accident

A WINCHESTER WOMAN INJURED IN AN ICE-RELATED ACCIDENT LAST WEEK HAS DIED.  44-YEAR-OLD ZANEATAA BAKER PASSED AWAY TUESDAY.  SHE WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED IN A ONE-CAR ACCIDENT ON INDIANA 32 EARLY LAST THURSDAY.  RANDOLPH COUNTY SHERIFF JAY HARRIS SAYS BAKER’S DEATH IS THE FOURTH TRAFFIC-RELATED FATALITY IN THE COUNTY, SO FAR THIS YEAR.
