Alexandria Teenagers Hurt in Crash

Three area teenagers were hospitalized Monday after an early morning accident near Alexandria.  Haley Hayes, 16, of Fairmount and Shane Swift, 17, of Alexandria were transported by PHI Air Aimbulance to Indianapolis after the pickup truck they were riding in left the roadway and struck two trees. The driver, 16-year-old Steven Guffey of Alexandria, was taken to Community Hospital and treated for abrasions and a laceration to the head.  According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, Guffey’s 1986 Ford pickup was southbound on County Road 100 East, just south of County Road 1150 North, shortly before 5 a.m. Monday when it ran off the road, glanced off one tree and struck another one.  It was unclear Monday why the vehicle left the roadway.
