First it was self-checkout. Now a dozen Indiana Kroger supermarkets plan to speed up checkout by doing away with scanning. Kroger has introduced “Scan, Bag, Go” technology at one – of its two Noblesville stores. How does it work? You pick up a handheld scanner when you walk in then scan items as you put them in your cart. When you reach the self-checkout all that’s left – is to scan a single bar code at the checkout station – and pay. Kroger says 10 more stores across Indiana will follow suit by year’s end.
