Although legislation to establish a nonpartisan commission to draw district lines in the future received a lot a support at a hearing, there appears little chance it will get a vote. Sen. Tim Lanane, who represents Madison County and who served on the study committee, said without another hearing in the House Elections Committee, the legislation is dead. Lanane introduced a similar bill in the Senate, but it has not been scheduled for a hearing.
