Simple Cement Blocks May Have Kept Pence Out of Harm’s Way

Officials say a field of aerated cement blocks that crumble under the weight of an aircraft helped prevent Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence’s campaign plane from barreling off a runway and onto a busy New York highway. Pence’s plane came to rest in a LaGuardia Airport arrestor bed after making a hard landing in a rainstorm Thursday night. No one was hurt.
