It’s not a new scam, but its making the rounds again; this time in Henry County.
Sheriff Butch Baker says his office had received at least half a dozen reports of older residents receiving calls purporting to be from a police station asking for money to help a sobbing young relative who is supposedly in trouble. Baker says the callers are convincing enough that some concerned family members have been conned into wiring them thousands of dollars. The Henry County sheriff urges you to be skeptical of such emergency pleas for money from any source.
