Propane Shortage Hits Midwest

There is a shortage of propane, the primary heating fuel for many rural Hoosier homes and businesses. The shortage and resultant price spike are attributed to a combination of cold weather, problems with a major supply pipeline and a late corn harvest that reduced Midwest inventories as farmers dried grain. Since the week of Oct. 11, Midwest propane inventories have dropped by more than 12 million barrels.
